The Selkirk practice has been in operation since before 1900.
It was previously owned by Mr. McFarlane himself and was taken on by Colin Stein in 1979.
Richard Spruce is our resident optometrist in the Selkirk practice.
Selkirk Reception Staff
Morag and Grace joined practice in 2019. They job share and are happy to help you with any questions you might have.
Eye tests are available all day on Tuesdays and, once a month, all day on Wednesdays.
Directions and Parking
The Selkirk Practice is located in the town centre, just down from the town square. It has easy access to free parking just off the town square.
Opening Times:
- Monday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5pm
- Tuesday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 6:30pm (optometrist here)
- Wednesday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5pm (optometrist here every other week)
- Thursday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5pm
- Friday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5pm
- Saturday Closed
- Sunday Closed

Since it’s Halloween on Thursday a wee warning about cosmetic contact lenses. If not used and cleaned correctly they can seriously damage your eyes. Don’t share them with anyone else (it’s kinda like using their toothbrush) and make sure you know how to safely put them in and out.

Seems appropriate since it’s #nationaleyehealthweek - Richard received his NHS prescription pad on Monday allowing him to prescribe a wide range of eye medications and treat far more eye conditions in the community and hopefully keep more patients away from the busy eye clinic at the Borders General Hospital. It took 2 years of hard study including clinical placements but Richard has finally completed his Independent Prescribing qualifications.
