Nicol’s opticians in Alva was previously a jewellers and opticians since around 1905. It became part of the group in 1991 when Mr. Nicol retired. Resident optometrist Richard Spruce provides eye exams in Alva (Iain is in Alloa and Stenhousemuir).

Alva Reception Staff

Our friendly reception staff are happy to deal with any enquires you have. Katie started working in Nicol’s in 2019 and Yvonne started in 2022.

Eye tests are available Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and every other Wednesday. 

Directions and Parking

The Alva practice is located in the town centre, opposite Bayne’s the bakers. It has easy access to free parking in nearby Cobden street.

Opening Times:

  •  Monday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5:30pm
  • Tuesday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5:30pm (no optometrist)
  • Wednesday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5:30pm (optometrist every other week)
  • Thursday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5:30pm
  • Friday Open 9:00am-1:00pm, and 2:00pm – 5:30pm
  • Saturday Closed
  • Sunday Closed

Since it’s Halloween on Thursday a wee warning about cosmetic contact lenses. If not used and cleaned correctly they can seriously damage your eyes. Don’t share them with anyone else (it’s kinda like using their toothbrush) and make sure you know how to safely put them in and out. ... See MoreSee Less
